Summer is almost here and it's time once again for the Battle of the Bands in downtown Highland Park, IL.

We are extending an invitation to all Student Bands from the area to participate in the Battle of the Bands. Students who are currently in or entering high school next school-year are eligible to compete.

The LATE NITE HP℠ Bitter Jester Battle® of the Bands is an event in which student bands compete for Cash Prizes during the month of June and early July. Each Friday night in June, various bands will perform in Port Clinton Square in the heart of downtown Highland Park. The bands will be judged and one will be chosen as a semi-finalist each week. On July 4th, before the city’s Fourth of July Fireworks Celebration, the four Friday night semi-finalists will battle each other on a professional sound stage. Judges in the audience narrow the semi-finalists down to two finalists. The two final bands then battle for the first place Cash Prize, with the audience determining the ultimate winner and champion of the battle!

First Place Cash Prize: $400.00
Second place Cash Prize: $200.00

  • The name of the band.
  • Contact name, email address and phone number.
  • Name of all band members along with the school they attend and their grade.

Your band will receive great exposure in the LATE NITE HP℠ web site and weekly entertainment email.

Some basic rules:

  • All bands must be high school student bands. At least half of the members of the band must be incoming freshmen or currently enrolled in high school.
  • The Friday Night Battles are on June 5, 12, 19 and 26. Each band must be available to perform on one of those dates. Also, commit to play on the 4th of July for the final Battle of the Bands, should they win their Friday Night Battle.
  • All Friday Night Battles are held at Port Clinton Square, rain or shine. Rain location is under the plaza balconies.
  • Friday Night Battles start promptly at 9:00 PM. Each band will perform one 20-minute set of original music, cover songs, or a combination of the two.
  • Bands must provide all necessary equipment (musical, sound, amplification, etc) for the Friday Night Battles - PROFESSIONAL EQUIPMENT (everything other than instruments) WILL BE PROVIDED FOR THE 4th OF JULY, along with a sound stage on which to perform.
  • Entering bands are permitted (and encouraged!) to advertise themselves widely leading up to the battles and all entering bands are permitted to promote themselves by selling CDs of their music before, during, and after performances.
  • Remember that the final decision on the 4th of July is made by the audience ... so be sure you tell ALL your friends and family to come and cheer for you on the 4th of July!
