LATE NITE HP PERFORMERS

Quintet

"We have so many influences, there isn't enough time to list them. Let's just say Quintet is a state of mind. It wouldn't matter if we had 40 players and a choir behind us, we would still be Quintet and that's the magic," says percussionist Albie Powers.

Quintet, the constantly evolving cover band was founded by lead vocalist and guitarist Richard Paull, a native of the mean streets of Highland Park, Illinois. With a voice that could melt the first 15 rows of any stadium, Dicky, as he is known in the cover circles, has assembled a rouges gallery of players that include:

Mike and Wendi Ezgur, a modern day Buckingham/Nicks who bring a level of stability to the band not seen since the legendary group Tommy 2Tone. They blend like oil and oil, texturing Paull's voice like a master's canvass. Wendi brings her beauty (both physical and sonic) to fortify and complete the band. Michael is the white collar suburban Pete Townshend, only not quite the songwriter. (He will sing a Townshend song from time to time though.)

Andy Block on bass, wields the heartbeat machine like a Capone Tommy Gun, always hitting his mark. Classically trained and of true musical pedigree, Block is the glue that allows Quintet to call themselves a band. Block enters his free agent season this year and is seeking a long term contract with a significant raise. This should prove to make his chops even greater this musical season. July '08 update: Andy is now on sabbatical from the band. Being a founding father though, he will forever remain Quintetified and thus, part of the band.

Lusty Albie Powers, plucked off a circus train in Louisiana where he tamed a pipe organ like a Bengal tiger, plays so many instruments he confuses himself at times. As Quintet's drummer, Powers mixes Buddy Rich and Peter Chris to come up with a Buddy Chris sound that is all Quintet.

The musical family of Quintet in their latest incarnation includes:

Dr. Dave Simone on Electric Bass. Dave has replaced Drew while Drew is on sabbatical. Dave enhances the band with a youthful enthusiasm. His electric bass infuses power into the music to bring Quintet's energy level to new and exciting heights. All Dave ever wanted to be in life was a rocker. Dentistry is a means to an end.

Dr. Judy Knight on keys. "Judy completes us..." is the refrain most heard on the inside. With her effortless lead keys and sprinkling enhancements, Judy has turned the Quintet sound into one of true intrigue. Ever the professional, Judy came to us one night at a gig and turned us into a real band. She sat in and we vowed never to let her go. Judy also has many other projects including (but not limited to) Velvet Vortex and Agent Axiom. Judy loves her jazz, but has vowed to put up with us to help satisfy her goal of "finding new grooves everyday".

Phil Goldman on mandolin and miscellaneous strings. Phil comes from true rock and roll royalty. Having played in the very successful progressive glam rock band of the 70's, Pentwater, Phil became infatuated with the mandolin as his instrument of choice. His pure skills and unique sound help texturize and further complete Quintet's folksy side...when he plays with us. It is only a matter of time before Phil can make it to a gig. He may as well enjoy the spoils of middle age stardom if he is going to continue to practice with us. Right? See Phil's glam rock photos and bio at www.pentwatermusic.com/philgoldman.html. He doesn't really look like that any more. Thankfully. Come see Phil with his other band The Buffalo Grease Band at other LNHP venues.

Having just broken on to the scene, Quintet is a mover that will prove that playing others people's music is the highest of calling.

Soldier of Fortune magazine called Quintet "our only hope for peace."

Boy's Life says, "there should be a merit badge called Quintet."

Rolling Stone screams, "Quintet, what a name!"

Quintet plays LATE NITE HP at various venues. Check them out and be changed forever.
